Giraffe are the world’s tallest living animal and they reach those towering heights because of elongated necks {that bit is obvious}, but what is not that obvious is that they have especially longer lower leg bones.
No other land animal can access the heights a giraffe can. Some vegetation has to survive to feed and offer shelter to many other animals and to do that they need regular pruning and ecosystems need their growth controlled for grasslands to thrive and be healthy, like African savanna’s most iconic tree-the acacia.
Thanks to the giraffe reaching areas no other terrestrial animal can, they prune and control this tree’s growth- also ensures the trees remain healthy to the benefit of many other animals and some plants. Giraffe plays a very important role in balancing ecosystems -they presence is critical to ensure an ecosystem flourishes and the savannas continue to exist.
Without them gracing the grasslands, our savannas will no longer look like… our savannas.
@tanzania is a beautiful home to giraffes. Come let us take you to experience the life of them.
