Good morning one and all
I'm reading a book titled 'encyclopedia of ugly animals'. Title meant to be humorous, many feel no animal is really ugly, not so. Granted, some animals, like certain spiders, can in deed be a bit creepy, but i do not find them ugly-as with many listed within this book. However, there is once i glance over, stall and then read a bit more as it is intrigues me:
The useful and strange marabou stork.
This is a large bird, can reach 1.5 meters and guess what other bird is found within this sub Saharan bird's family?
The vultures
No surprise really as this large stork is primarily a scavenger and like vultures essential to maintain the health of an ecosystem. For, one they clean rotting leftovers [often they are 'clean- up crew' after other scavengers] remaining at the water's edge, or other water sources, there by preventing the spread of germs.
--Luckily, they prefer aquatic areas but also happy to leave near humans and prefer to live closer to their garbage area and help keep germs at bay and diseases from spreading.
